About the role
We need Privacy Counsel to lead how Rutylis handles data responsibly. You will own privacy compliance and partner with product on privacy-by-design.
You will help Rutylis move quickly while making sound, responsible decisions. The work calls for practical legal judgement, clear communication, and close partnership with teams that need guidance they can actually use in day-to-day execution.
In this Privacy Counsel role, you will have real ownership rather than a narrow task list. You will be expected to understand the problem, communicate trade-offs clearly, make good decisions with incomplete information, and follow through until the work is shipped, adopted, and improved.
This is a remote - us position designed for people who do excellent work without needing an office to do it. We value clear writing, reliable follow-through, inclusive collaboration, and the ability to work across time zones with context, trust, and respect.
What you'll do
- Own privacy compliance across jurisdictions (GDPR, CCPA, and more)
- Partner with product and engineering on privacy-by-design
- Advise the business on commercial, product, and privacy matters
- Draft and negotiate agreements that protect Rutylis and move deals forward
- Build scalable templates, playbooks, and processes
- Partner with product on privacy-by-design and responsible data use
- Translate legal risk into clear, practical guidance
What we're looking for
- JD and active bar membership (or equivalent jurisdiction qualification)
- Relevant in-house or firm experience in the role's focus area
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and judgement
- Ability to give pragmatic, business-minded advice
Nice to have
- Technology, SaaS, or marketplace experience
- Privacy certifications (CIPP) where relevant
- Experience scaling legal operations
Compensation & benefits
$185,000 – $250,000/yr — premium-band, reviewed twice a year.
